When using 2 Display Port Cables I get a No Signal Error on my xl2420z. Dual Monitor ISSUE!

KOREY MARKOVIC Dec 26, 2017 05:08PM CST

I'm having a bizarre issue. When I plug in my xl2420z using a displayport cable on its own I'm able to use it without any issue or hitch. If I plug in my xl2420t with another displayport cable it will cause my xl2420z to go black and display a no signal message.

Though If I use my DVI-D on my xl2420z and DP on my xl2420t there is no issue.

Any Ideas? I have tried completely wiping and reinstalling my video card drivers with no avail.

That is really strange! These are both being connected to the GPU (not the mobo), correct? What GPU do you have?

EVGA NVIDIA GTX 1080 FTW, and Yup both are plugged directly into the GPU

Hello Korey,

Have you tried hooking them up one at a time? Do you get a different result?

Do they show up in windows or your NVIDIA control panel?

Hey Tim, Yes I tried hooking them up one at a time and still get the same issue.

They both show up in Nvidia Control Panel. Though I can only see them when 1 is hooked up a time as if I hook up both I get a black screen with no source

Also to answer that question Tim, As for a different result I it is random which of the monitors will go blank. Sometimes the Z will go blank and sometimes the T will.

Its really strange.

Did your setup ever work together, both monitors working? What is your graphics card? Also what is is your power supply watts?

There could be a limitation to your configuration.

Hey Tim. I haven't had them working together on display port before as I did not have both cables.

I have a 700W EVGA PSU and a EVGA GTX 1080 FTW Edition GFX CARD.

Hello Korey,

After reading a bunch of forums I see this issue is not common but has many threads. They said make sure your GPU driver is up to date.

Is your motherboard bios completely up to date? Are you using a VESA certified display port cables?

You can try this

Hey Tim, I'm going to purchase some new cables. The ones I purchased were from a local store here and they're not able to give me any details on the cables specs.

Doing some research online I was able to find how picky these cables are.

I'll update as soon as I receive the new cables. Thanks a lot for your help so far.

Super Disappointing, the new display port cables came through today and they do not work. I get a message cable not connected I'm beginning to think that the Display Port - Port is broken.

The new cables work on my old xl2420T but not my Z.

Is there a way to send this in for repair? or am I looking at a new monitor.

Holy Smokes, It is working TIM. So I reinstalled my entire OS and did a reformat. Everything worked until I downloaded my Nvidia Drivers and the screen went black only on the one monitor..

I checked inside my nvidia control panel and navigated down to setup multiple displays.

The second monitor was unchecked and I was able to just check the box and boom she powers up.
