MHL: What is it and why should I care?

Last Updated: Jun 22, 2015 02:02PM CDT
MHL stands for Mobile High definition Link and is a new standard for viewing content off of your mobile device on a bigger screen.

MHL is mostly prevalent in TVs for now, however more projectors and computer monitors are gaining ground in that regard.

We have a few offerings in terms of MHL enabled devices, both projectors and monitors. for projectors, we have the HT series projectors as well as MX823ST and the MW824ST.

For monitors, our EW series monitors have MHL capabilities. Models are EW2440L and the EW2740L.

now, onto the meat and potatoes; you don't really need to have anything fancy to get this working unless your Android device (sorry Iphone users) does not support MHL (please check with your manufacturer or look online to make sure your phone or tablet can do this). you need an MHL cable, which is a typical mini USB to HDMI cable.

There are ways to get MHL working on devices that do not support  MHL with special adapters. Samsung devices sometimes require an MHL adapter that they sell directly.

make sure to plug the HDMI end to the specified HDMI port on your Projector or monitor, it should have the MHL emblem next to it.

It brings a whole new way to share your favorite photos or videos without having to save them onto a thumb drive or storing them in the cloud.
